RICK SECRIST, CHAIRMAN of CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE, Class of 1966 
Past President of Tucson High Badger Foundation
Rick a native Tucsonan, has been involved in spearheading and organizing many large events and functions. In 1999, Rick served as Chairman of the 75th Anniversary Celebration of the Tucson High School Main Building. Rick has taken an extended leave of absence from his regular profession because he wants to devote all his time to working on Tucson High’s 100th Centennial Anniversary and also being last year's President of the Tucson High Badger Foundation.

JUDY JONES, CHAIRWOMAN of CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE, Class of 1963
Current President of the Tucson High Badger Foundation.
Judy has also served as Executive Director of the Foundation several years ago.  Judy has had experience in banquet and catering which she did for many years.  She is also Chairman of Golden Oldies which is a reunion held every spring for THS Classes of 1949 and before.

EDITH AUSLANDER Class of 1957
Vice-president of the University of Arizona and Senior Associate to the President

Edith, a native Tucsonan, has been involved with the University of Arizona for most of her career.

From 1973-1981, Edith, who received her master's degree in journalism in 1975, worked at the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson where she was a features writer, a general assignment reporter, an education reporter, and an editor for two features sections. Before joining the Star, she was the managing editor of Arizona Catholic Lifetime for 16 years.

Between 1977 and 1984 she worked as a faculty member in the UA journalism department. She left the faculty in 1984 when she was appointed to the Arizona Board of Regents. In particular, she proved to be a firm and constant voice for the interests of women, students and minorities.

She is active in a number of community organizations. She was one of 15 founders of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She has been listed in Hispanic Business magazine as one of 100 influential U.S. Hispanics and in Replica Magazine as one of 25 Hispanic Women of the Year.

TOM FRIDENA Class of 1946
President of the Class of 1946
Tom has had extensive experience in planning various functions and events. He gives 110% to anything he gets involved in, lending his enthusiasm and encouragement. He has actively fundraised for many things at Tucson High, including the weight room, the scoreboard sign at the football stadium, the bust of Rollin T. Gridley, and the Badger Gardens.

Tom was Chairman of the Fiesta Bowl Parade in 1975, which event is well known as the largest spectator event in the state of Arizona. He was selected to the Fiesta Bowl Board of Directors in 1978, and later served as its Chairman of the Board.

JERRY HALFMANN
Department Head of Photography and Media Arts at Tucson High Magnet School
He has earned many professional honorsincluding recognition by Photo Imaging Educators Association in 1993 as one of the top three photo educators in the country; multiple Teacher of the Year awards, and in 1990 was a national winner of the Beseler/Agfa Excellence in Photographic Education award. In keeping with the recognition he has received as an educator, Halfmann's students regularly receive local, state and national recognition for their work, both in fine arts and vocational photography, and his graduates are consistently placed in careers in the field. The Museum of Contemporary Art recently honored Jerry with their Lifetime Achievement Award.

KELLY QUINLAN HOOK, Class of 1980

She and her husband Jim are the Co-Executive Directors of the Tucson High Badger Foundation.  Kelly runs the business and accounting for the Foundation and is the Director of Finance for Tucson Botanical Gardens.

Dr. Morado is eager to have the Centennial celebration be a momentous and successful year-long event. He is very involved with the Badger Foundation, sitting in on many of its meetings, which can last long hours into the evening. He is the first principal of Tucson High to hold a doctoral degree.

ROBERT MORRIS, Class of 1969

CEO of The Center for Diversity in New York City.
Robert has held top positions in several Fortune 500 Companies, serving as CEO of some.  He took his own company public several years ago. Robert formerly worked with Alan Greenspan at the Federal Reserve Bank.

Through his leadership the Class of 1959 designed, raised the money for, built and installed the large red neon "T" that stands on top of Tucson High's Main Building.  Facing the football stadium, this symbol of Tucson High has been greeting visitors for the past 47 years. Bright, analytical and a leader in every way, John is a valuable member of the Centennial Committee.

He is a professor and the Director of the Rhetoric Composition and Teaching of English Department at the University of Arizona. John has been very thoughtful and generous regarding Tucson High. After his experience with the Badger Foundation Board of Directors, and after the death of his Tucson High classmate Oscar Holmes, John and his wife Tilly set up an endowment in the University of Arizona Foundation that specifically goes to underprivileged and minority students from Tucson High who want to attend the U of A. John started this fund with an initial contribution of $10,000, which has since been added to by other Tucson alums.

BENNY YOUNG Class of 1969
Former City of Tucson Assistant City Manager, former Head City Engineer, and now the current Deputy Director of Tucson Parks and Recreation.

Benny is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in Civil Engineering. He is a registered professional engineer and a registered land surveyor. Benny and his family are very involved in the community with Benny’s wife, Bobbie, being the Executive Director of the Lohse YMCA.


Everyone serving on the Tucson High School Centennial Committee is enthusiastic, energetic, and well qualified to help plan and execute an event like the 100th Anniversary Centennial. The expertise, knowledge and experience that each person brings to the group, the mix of ages, and the perspective of the different graduating classes they represent, ensure that this committee will make Tucson High’s 100th Anniversary Centennial a spectacular and memorable event.
